Brampton’s centre is built largely from local red sandstone, with terraces and cottages around the Market Place and the octagonal Moot Hall, and newer estates on the edges of town. Older stone properties bring their own jobs: timber windows and doors that need repairing rather than replacing, uneven floors that need levelling before new flooring, and plaster that has cracked or blown on solid walls.
